KK not around but Slick Nick takes on the political babe gig

This is an excerpt from Nick's column found here:

http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentary/101193564.html?elr=KArksc8P:Pc:Ug8P:Pc:UiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr

"The summer is coming quickly to an end, but not quickly enough. Summer is the silly season in politics, and Minnesotans are being exposed this month to a clown-car full of silliness that makes us long for Labor Day, the resumption of school, and the more substantive and serious political discussions we need to have before election day.

What can you do, for example, with the frat-boy video posted on the Internet by some of the fun-loving guys in the Minnesota Republican Party that made the claim that Republican women are hot babes while Democratic women are dogs?

The video (which has been removed from the website of the Senate District 56 GOP in Lake Elmo) was denounced by all the usual suspects on all sides of the political divide, repudiated in such muscular terms that it would be understandable now if someone got the mistaken impression that Republicans have abandoned any claim that GOP women are attractive and admit they are just as unappealing as Janet Reno.

Just to be clear, that is not what the Republicans are saying. Ever since Mamie Eisenhower and Barbara Bush, however, the Republicans have seemed a bit defensive about the women in their party. Take Tim Pawlenty: The governor is married to "a red-hot smoking wife," he has said, which is the kind of crack that might get a Democrat a wife who would just be hot under the collar. And Sarah Palin? Her handlers apparently worried so much that she wasn't smokin' hot enough for prime time after McCain picked her as her running mate in 2008 that the first thing they did was take her on a prettification tour of Macy's, to the tune of $150,000.

But there is nothing new about the grating and drooling GOP video, which mimicked a lot of dorm room posters. The 90th anniversary of women's suffrage, Women's Equality Day, will be observed Thursday, but sexists have never stopped barraging women with messages saying they are needed at home too much to vote and they are too gosh darn cute to worry their pretty little heads about politics.

Women in politics have always been stereotyped: Hatchet-faced suffragettes, mannish policy wonks, bra-burning harpies: From Susan B. Anthony to Eleanor Roosevelt to Bella Abzug, Hilary Clinton and Elena Kagan. Many of the history-making women over the past century have been Democrats because, with the great exceptions of slavery and Civil Rights, the Democrats have been at the forefront of social and cultural change. A lot of people don't like that, especially in the ranks of conservatives uncomfortable still with the role of women in the national discussion.

Here is Ann Coulter -- one of the right's favorite hotties, who says she has never met an attractive liberal woman -- on the subject of women and voting:

"It would be a much better country if women did not vote. That is simply a fact. In fact, in every presidential election since 1950 -- except Goldwater in '64 -- the Republican would have won if only the men had voted."

Yes, and if women didn't vote, it would make the United States just like ... Saudi Arabia. Go back to the kitchen, Ms. Coulter, and cover your pretty little head.

Actually, men also voted (by a slim margin) for Barack Obama in 2008, so Coulter's bombast is out of date. But the part that really makes many women ugly to Republicans is that most women usually vote for the other side. In the last presidential election, women split 56-43 for Obama over the GOP candidate, John McCain. And single women -- the unmarried, divorced, separated and widowed -- went overwhelmingly for the Democrat, 70 percent to 29 percent.

That's why radio bully Rush Limbaugh rails against "feminazis" and seems to long for the day when gentlemen smoked cigars after the women retired to the kitchen so the guys could discuss politics and sate their oral fixations.

I almost feel sorry for the Minnesota doofuses -- one of them unfortunately named Randy -- who posted the hot Republican babes video when, in their own words, they are perplexed by the fact that more women vote than men and "the startling fact is that more than 75 percent of them vote Democrat!"

Gosh, fellas, I've got a great idea: In our quest to get more babes to vote for us, let's put up a video that shows that any chick who votes for a Democrat is an ugly man-hater.

The bottom line is that one of our political parties has a problem with women.

But it isn't the Democrats.

They have most of the women, and, for their candidates, that's a beautiful thing.

No question about it. Conservative women are much more attractive on average than liberal women. Now that I think about it, lesbian women are much less attractive on average than normal women. I wonder why that is?

  9. A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him.

He asked, 'What are all those clocks?'

St. Peter said, 'Well those are Lie-Clocks.
Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock.

Every time you lie, the hands on your clock will move.'

'Oh,' said the man, 'whose clock is that?'

'That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie.'

'Incredible,' said the man. 'And whose clock is that one?'

St. Peter responded, 'That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life.'

'Where's Liberal Greg's clock?' asked the man.

Liberal Greg's clock is in Jesus' office. He's using it as a ceiling fan.

  12. Hey tluck, I just saw your post from last week, and I'm with Greg. It's gonna take a combination of #'s 1,2 and 4 to crawl outta the hole we find ourselves in right now. What irritates me is the neocon insistence on no taxes. While it is not possible to tax our way out of this, it is impossible to do so without letting the Bush tax cuts sunset, at the very least. We are, after all, at war. There should be new income taxes on the top 5%, maybe in the form of a surcharge, until we are out of hostilities in the Middle East.

  13. Monty ...

you may be right about the picture ... must ponder.

As for the other (1,2,4) .. I believe that is just going to take everyone 'getting' it. We've lived high on the hog while at war for far too long. For all the talk of patriotism, I find it rather hypocritical that people refuse to understand that war is not free ..

American's better pull their heads out of their asses after electing the first socialist President along with a radical leftist House and Senate, and allow Conservatives to get us back on track. I hate to say it but 3's already well underway.

As far as tax policy goes in the near term O's promise of no new taxes on those making less than 250K sounds about right to me. Though I wish it would be mandated to go to deficit reduction only.

Long term we need to get to a flat or fair tax to take the politics out of revenue generation.

And according to the CBO our problems are a little deeper, and systematic than just paying for the war.

  18. I don't think there are any conservative women who are hotter than Dennis Kucinich's wife.
Yowza. How does Dennis do it?
But hotness is entirely a relative thing so the debate is extra-silly. Personally I don't think it even help Dem's case to carp onthis vid and point out that so many Conservatives are sexist because 1) it's obvious and 2)By objecting to things like this video they play into the sterotype of liberals having no sense of humor.

ON another topic, last week when Katherine felt like working she railed against the allegedly activist judge trying to put the kibash on the California gay marriage ban. I wonder if she feels the same way about this federal judge who put the injunction on embryotic stem cell research. Seems like pretty clear-cut judicial activism to me.

PS Katherine isn't very hot. Who knows, maybe she was in 1968.

Relative is correct. A woman can be beautiful on the outside, but if she's bat-shit crazy she turns ugly real quick. There's a few 'conservative' women I can think of that qualify for that bat-shit crazy gig.

  45. Pick Your Reason:

As a public service to Greg and other liberals, I'm providing reasons for them to explain the bizarre way they vote:

    10. I voted Democrat because I believe oil companies' profits of 4% on a gallon of gas are obscene but the government taxing the same gallon of gas at 15% isn't.

    9. I voted Democrat because I believe the government will do a better job of spending the money I earn than I would.

    8. I voted Democrat because Freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is offended by it.

    7. I voted Democrat because I'm way too irresponsible to own a gun, and I know that my local police are all I need to protect me from murderers and thieves.

    6. I voted Democrat because I believe that people who can't tell us if it will rain on Friday can tell us that the polar ice caps will melt away in ten years if I don't start driving a Prius.

    5. I voted Democrat because I'm not concerned about the slaughter of millions of babies through abortion so long as we keep all death row inmates alive.

    4. I voted Democrat because I think illegal aliens have a right to free health care, education, and Social Security benefits.

    3. I voted Democrat because I believe that business should not be allowed to make profits for themselves. They need to break even and give the rest away to the government for redistribution as the democrats see fit.

    2. I voted Democrat because I believe liberal judges need to rewrite the Constitution every few days to suit some fringe kooks who would never get their agendas past the voters.

    1. I voted Democrat because my head is so firmly planted up my ass that it is unlikely that I'll ever have another point of view.

I'll keep my Freedom, my God and my Guns... You keep the Change...

Get out and vote November 2nd, 2010!

POLITICIANS AND DIAPERS SHOULD BE CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON..

    ReplyDelete
  46. Helen .. that's a good one you dickhead!!

I think the range would be somewhat dependent on the winds and tidal currents. It looks like about 300 gallons and you're going to burn 2 gallons/hour @ 8 knots (I think that's just about 9mph) so figure it from there. From what I understand, the Ford Lehmans are more efficient and the volvo's are even better. Another thing to consider is that's a single screw ... twin is better for range and you're mileage. The other bonus for a twin setup is the potential of losing one. She's definately not made for long range open seas but for coastal waters. For HA, you'd probably want a motor sail?

My goal is to have something that will go from Ketchikan to San Diego and find a permanent boat house in Seattle or Everett (Everett seems to be cheaper). Remember the newer nav equipment pretty much takes care of your range and directional needs ... not to mention auto pilot.

Sometimes I think about just finding a fixer-upper and getting started ..
